Jair Oliveira de Farias Jr, also known as Mestre Sabiá, started Capoeira in 1985.
In 1989, he was already teaching in clubs and academies in Salvador-Bahia, and 1990 he was invited to Hamburg-Germany, where he lived for two years teaching Capoeira to children and adults.
Back in Brazil, Mestre Sabiá continued his career as a capoeirista and became one of the most popular and influential members of the famous ABADÁ CAPOEIRA, under Mestre Camisa. As a capoeirista, Mestre Sabiá has been champion and vice-champion of the ABADA´s World Games of Capoeira, gave classes and lectures all around the world, and performed to personalities such as the presidents of Brazil and Venezuela, Luiz Inácio “Lula” da Silva and Hugo Chavez.
In 2004, he left ABADA CAPOEIRA and founded the group GINGA MUNDO, inspired by the International Encounter of Capoeira and Afro-Cultural Manifestations, which was idealized and organized by Mestre Sabiá himself. Mestre Sabiá is also the director of the NGO Projeto Mandinga, an organization that uses Capoeira in educational programs for low-income children and adolescents.
